Bloggy Giveaway: One Free Year of Menu Planning

***UPDATE: Congratulations to Angela who blogs at Nine More Months! And, thanks to everyone who took the time to play along! ***

Each week, I sit down and create a plan for our weekly dinners.

It has never been my favorite chore. It takes a good deal of time and involves me shuffling through a lot of recipes.

But I do it.

Because you know what's worse than planning weekly meals?

Walking into a grocery store at 5 p.m. on a weeknight with three kids in tow and asking, "What should I make for dinner tonight?"

That's pretty much my definition of hell on earth.

So, I choose to menu plan. I used to do it begrudgingly (and with a fair amount of complaining), until a couple months ago when I discovered Relish!.

Relish! is a menu planning service. Each week, they email me a new list of 10 dinners I can choose to prepare. I choose five meals from the Relish! list, then print out my ready-made grocery list and recipes.

It. Is. The. Bomb.

Meal planning now takes all of 10 minutes.

The delicious recipes are super-simple and are labeled with tags like "kid friendly," "vegetarian," and "lower calorie" for convenience. This week we're enjoying Chicken Stir Fry Lettuce Wraps with Ginger Rice, Spinach Pie with Pine Nuts and Apple Salad, and Pacific Flat Iron Steaks with Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Pears.

What's more, Relish! even offers customized menus for family movie nights (think Kung Pao Chicken for a screening of Kung Fu Panda), theme parties, lunches and monthly freezer menus.

Now, here's the great news: The ladies over at Relish! have generously donated a one-year subscription to their service to one lucky winner.

That's one-year of having someone plan your weekly dinners! The only thing better than that is a personal chef , and unfortunately, I couldn't find one of those to give away. ;-)

So, here's how to enter:

1) Leave a comment telling me whether or not you sit down and make a weekly meal plan. (Comments that don't answer that question will be deleted!)

2) OPTIONAL: Get a second entry for twittering the contest. Just be sure to leave a second comment so you get your second entry.

3) OPTIONAL: You can get a third entry by subscribing to Life with Three. Again, just leave a second comment saying you did so.

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern (8:59 p.m. Pacific) on Friday, January 30th, 2009. Winner will be determined by the good ol' random number generator.

So get commenting -- and don't forget to go and check out the hundreds of other fantabulous giveaways going on this week as part of the Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival!

And...don't forget to check out my other giveaway for a custom-made cape and mask set -- perfect for the pint-sized superhero or princess in your life!

Good luck y'all!

I normally sit down and meal plan before I go shopping, but I don't do a whole week at a time because it never seems to work out that I cook "real meals" every day!

I try really hard to have atleast a few meals planned, but I have to admit I am pretty bad at it, and we usually get about half way into the week and I have to run to the store again for something...it is annoying, I would lvoe this!!

I try to... But I do a month at a time, and make a list of possible dinners, then just buy the needed ingredients, and pick a meal off the list each night. it works pretty well for us. =)

About a year ago, hubby and I sat down and made up a few weeks of menus. And we stuck to it. And then it stopped. We need to do it again.

I try hard to make a meal plan each week but I'm not always successful. Then some weeks I don't even do it at all. Not having a meal plan does cause confusion and tough decisions each night trying to answer "what do you want for dinner?"

I too have been meaning to try to start menu planning especially being seven months pregnant, I know it would help my husband a great deal! Thanks for a great giveaway :)

LibraryGirl said...

Wow this sounds like a great service. My meal planning at this point is generally limited to Monday - something with chicken, Tuesday - something with hamburger, Wednesday - fish, and so on.

I'd love to have actual recipes planned for the week so I know what to have on hand.

Hello, and what a FABULOUS giveaway! Thank you thank you for th opportunity!

I have been trying to push myself into meal planning, and lately it's been working out great for my family. I only do it every other weekend, and I plan for two weeks- that way I get most of my major shopping done the first weekend and next weekend just have to pick up some odds and ends. It would be great to have a service like this to help me when I get stumped trying to pull 14 meals out at a time!

I have to meal plan. We are on a tiny budget and if I shop without a list, I will blow that budget every time. It's not easy but it's worth it.

OKay, I'd like to say we do this more often than not, but it's probably more NOT. We did sit down last week with 3+ cookbooks and plan all the meals for the following two weeks. Try going to the grocery store with two boys 4, 2 and shopping alone. It wasn't an easy task. However, this last week was WONDERFUL not having to think of something to eat at 5 pm and trying to make sure we had all the incredients! I would LOVE this. Husband, two kids, two Etsy shops and we're planning on adding another baby! Oh how wonderful this gift would be!

oh my gosh. You cannot imagine how much I need this. I do make a bi monthly menu and it takes forever and ever and ever. I have three kids, so in between homeschooling the teen and just trying to survive my twin toddlers it takes a lot out of me. You just have to do it though. If you don't plan a menu it just ends up costing so much more at the store.

We rarely make a weekly meal plan. In fact "what do you want for dinner?" is said more often in this house than "I love you."

Being vegetarian, we find it harder to have a variety of meals to choose from because time is a major issue and most Veg dishes are quite elaborate. Between juggling doctor appointments and extracurricular activities we need to keep it simple!

I USED to sit down and make a weekly meal plan. I too HATED the dragging-the-kids-to-five-stores day for the best deals. Eewwww! Planning was great, and I felt a sense of accomplishment.

Now, I SHOULD make a weekly meal plan. I work, and have no time or energy left to make a great dinner.

Thank you for entering me! I would love to win this gift!

This would be a blessing for me. I always intend to do this but time gets away from me and then we run out of things and I have to go before I have done this. My pantry is FULL of food that ends up not being used because I can't remember what I bought it for.

Only when I'm feeling ambitious do I make a weekly menu plan. I did the last couple of weeks, but this week was shot, due to the stomach bug attacking our house!!

I just started - literally, I did my first meal plan this week. I LOVE it. I'm using up what I have on hand, I don't have to come home at 6:30 each night and panic because I have no idea what we're doing for dinner, it's fabulous. I would love to win the giveaway!

I usually am the one that wanders the grocery store aimlessly with 4 kids trying to figure out what to make for the week-ugh. I wish I were more organized to plan a menu. This is an awesome service they provide, I just may have to look into it a bit more. Thanks!

For the most part I don't plan, but am trying to change that in the new year...I'm definitely much happier when I have a plan, I just hate putting it together!

A few years ago, I not only had a weekly meal plan, but I had it written out for three meals each day! Now, I'm inconsistent. Some weeks, I write out a menu, other weeks I don't. With four children still at home, I should do a better job of planning.

I usually only meal plan a couple of days in advance, or not at all. But I do try to keep enough on hand to make some basic meals and just vary with whatever looked good at the grocery store that week.
But a meal planning service would definitely take care of the last minute wondering if I have everything I need!

I don't consistently meal plan, but I do have a basic list of meals that I always keep ingredients for.
